Needles, CA: 10-10 event with ribbon cutting for 2 new flagpole today. Guest and dignitaries from Los Angeles, California arrived to Needles, California and were greeted by City of Needles Mayor Edward T. Paget on Thursday, October 9th, 2014 as they prepare for the 10-10 event, also known as the Republic of China’s National Day or Taiwans Independence Day, which will be held at 10:10am PT on Friday, October 10th, 2014 (10-10) outside in front of the Needles City Council Chambers located on the 1700 block of J Street near the Needles Recreation Center and Bailey Avenue in Needles, California. The ceremony recognizing the founding of the Republic of China will representatives from the City of Needles, County of San Bernardino, Republic of China Veterans Associations in Los Angeles, California, and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, California will all be attending this annual community event. Organizers of the 10-10 event walked through the layout of the event and where everything is being set up which will be in the parking lot area facing Bailey Avenue. ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez was there wad organizers plan out the event and found put some new information. This year, the City of Needles put up 2 flagpoles on the westside of the complex facing the parking lot near Bailey Avenue that will be use during the 10-10 event. To welcome in the 2 new flagpoles, a ribbon cutting will be held before the 10-10 event at around 9:30am PT on Friday, October 10th, 2014. Both the Republic of China and the United States of America are presented and raised up the 2 new flagpole as the national anthem for both the Republic of China and the United States of America is played and song proudly. Organizers of the 10-10 event tell ZachNews that a band from possibly Needles High School will be performing at the 10-10 event and a plaque dedication will be held. After the 10-10 event, invited guest, dignitaries, and City of Needles Officials will go to a lunch gathering at Panda Garden in Needles, California. According to the City of Needles, the National Day of the Republic of China ceremony has been on going in our community for over 40 years and commemorates the Wuch’ang Uprising of 1911. Around 100 people each year attend this event which was organized in 1973 by Bruce Weekley and Wing Yee. As a result of the uprising the Ch’ing Dynasty was replaced; the Republic of China was founded on Monday, January 1st, 1912. During the long-running Chinese Civil War which began in 1927, the nationalist government of the Republic of China relocated to the island of Taiwan in 1949 while the communist government of the People’s Republic of China assumed control of the mainland. The public is asked to come early before the ceremony as seating fills up fast.
