Negative emotional outbursts are very destructive to you and ALL - TopicsExpress

Negative emotional outbursts are very destructive to you and ALL of your relationships. Ephesians 4:26, 27 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: neither give place to the devil. If scripture tells us that we, as Christians, are not to lose control of our emotions and become angry, doesn’t this verse teach a contradictory message? Definitely not. The anger in this verse is not talking about anger directed toward an individual, but instead it is referring to directing your hostilities toward sin, Satan and his forces. In the second portion of this verse we see that we are not to hold on to wrath (anger). The term “let not the sun go down” in my opinion means that we are not to allow harsh feelings or thoughts to set in for even a moment and should not be taken to literally, allowing us to hold on to our anger until nightfall. One of my strongest weaknesses is emotional control. Sometimes the least thing will set me off, especially concerning those I love most. As I have grown in spirit and age I have learned a valuable lesson: angry outbursts are destructive to everyone involved. It can be especially damaging to children, causing them much emotional and spiritual baggage for their future, as well as, passing the generational curse of emotional control issues on to them and possibly their children as we. In the words of Barney Fife, we should “nip it in the bud”; meaning learn to control any and all negative emotional responses and outbursts. As quickly as possible I will now go to the person or persons I have loosed my temper upon to ask forgiveness and reconcile that relationship. Swallowing my pride is something I do not like to do, giving me incentive to hold my tongue and my temper. But, on the occasions I stumble and get in the flesh, I want to get this obstacle out of the way so that I am able to restore my relationships with the offended parties (man and God). If you suffer from an emotional weakness as I do, admit it to God. He already knows and desires to remove this stumbling block from your life. It doesn’t matter if this sin in your life is anger, hurt feelings, sadness, depression, or whatever, God wants to free you. Verse 27 tells you not to give place to the Devil. You should take this warning to heart. You should not allow Satan the victory in our emotional state. When you lose control of your negative emotions, you should repent of your sin and seek to restore your relationships (man and God) as quickly as possible.
