Negotiation Update #4 Negotiations between your bargaining - TopicsExpress

Negotiation Update #4 Negotiations between your bargaining committee and General Dynamics continued on Saturday, January 18, 2014 into the evening. The day was spent negotiating economic issues, for the most part. As of Saturday night, the parties are far apart on important economic issues, including health care, pension, and wages. The Company continues to maintain its position that the Defined Benefit Plan would be closed to new hires and the monthly benefits under the Defined Benefit Plan for current active participants would not be increased for prior service. The Company continues to propose dramatic increases to employee contributions toward the cost of health care insurance. Its wage proposal continues to be a $650 lump sum in Year 1; a 2% wage increase in Year 2; a $1,000 lump sum in Year 3; and, a 2% wage increase in Year 4. At this time, it is not known when a meeting of the membership to consider and to vote on a Company Final Offer will be scheduled. Your Union bargaining committee is committed to working diligently at the bargaining table to ensure the best possible contract proposal for your consideration in a ratification vote. We don’t know, as of today, how long it may take to meet that commitment. The members of Local 15009 will be provided ample prior notice of the date, time, and place of a ratification meeting. In addition, prior to a ratification meeting a complete copy of the Company’s Final Offer as well as a Union-prepared Summary of the Company’s Final Offer will be distributed to all members of Local 15009. We will continue to keep you informed about all significant developments that occur during the collective bargaining process. We have 1 day before the contract expires. Your solidarity and support is needed now to achieve a fair and equitable contract!
