Neighbors: Last night the School Board met to begin discussions on how to meet the likely $38 million dollar funding gap. The Board of Supervisors will adopt the final budget today, so please send them an email at [email protected] and ask them to provide full funding of the School Board’s proposed FY15 Operating Budget. At last night’s School Board meeting, the following are cuts that were identified as possible reductions which impact special education: Eliminate middle school deans and replace with one additional assistant principal Eliminate one OT and one SLP that were added to address enrollment growth Eliminate administrative interns Provide transportation to/from school. Consider elimination of all other transportation after review of what all other transportation includes. I have already emailed Jill Turgeon and Brenda Sheridan that CAST and CBI are IDEA requirements for fulfilling IDEA. Delay acquiring additional buses, including 25 large special education buses and 11 small special education buses Eliminate adding a position for a Transition Specialist. This position has been recommended by SEAC for the past few years to successfully transition students to postsecondary life.
