Neil deGrasse Tyson New Years Letter - 2015 Happy New Year to everyone in Facebook-land who uses the Gregorian Calendar. The year 2014 was busy for me, with the release of Cosmos: A SpaceTime odyssey serving as the largest invest of my energies. But It was also the year I learned that I was a enemy of some fundamentalist Christians an the enemy of some others in the Conservative right -- by alerting people of Darwinian evolution, that the universe is 14 billion years old, and that humans are unwittingly changing Earths climate. I also learned that Im an enemy of some in the Liberal left, for commenting on foods that have been genetically modified. And that if you alert people that Isaac Newton was born on December 25th, that millions of Christians will rise up in protest. Fact is, I like learning about the causes and effects of peoples reaction to information. Those are the seeds of what makes a better educator -- knowing how the human mind intersects with knowledge. So while I had many defenders among you out there, I nonetheless found the exchanges illuminating, trolls included.
