Nepali Indigenous Peoples Delegation in UN Headquarter 23 - TopicsExpress

Nepali Indigenous Peoples Delegation in UN Headquarter 23 September, 2014, New York, a delegation of Nepali Indigenous Peoples met Mr. Fancisco Carli the Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and updated the implementation status of the Early Warnings, issued by the CERD in 2007 and onwards. The Early Warnings were related to the community representation (collective not from the political party) of Indigenous Peoples in ongoing Constitution making process in Nepal. The Early Warnings were issued with reference to the CERD Convention, ILO C.169 and UNDRIP that guarantee the right of IPs to send CA members through their representative organizations (IPos) in the context of Nepal. Further, the right has been guaranteed under Article 63(c) of the Interim Constitution 2007 of Nepal and the Supreme Court of Nepal conferred by its two judgments (LAHURNIP et. al. v. GON and Bishendra Paswan v. GON) in 2013 and 2014. Recently, GON has nominated Political Cadre as a 17 CA Members that clearly violates the above mentioned right. The future visit by the Chair in Nepal was also discussed during the meeting.
