Neptunes Tick panel is back--all negative, thyroid will take a bit - TopicsExpress

Neptunes Tick panel is back--all negative, thyroid will take a bit longer. We spent some time looking back at pictures and it appears the swelling started sometime in late July/early August, which is about the same time he managed to tear a nice sized wound on the side of his ribcage while playing in the yard. There was no apparent infection, but we wonder if this could have been the trigger. In addition to the thyroid, well be chasing down an elevated (by greyhound numbers) WBC. I do have this advice--take pictures of your dogs often, from different angles. Now that we know what we are looking for, we can see when the swelling began, but it was so subtle in-person that we went a long time without catching it. The attached shot is the first one taken where we felt we should have noticed the swelling and asymmetry beginning--August 16th, Puppy Day at Shadow Run. It is not as obvious in the first crop, but zooming in you can see that his right termporalis muscle appears swollen. When the pic was originally taken, we felt it was just a shadow. Other shots taken that day were not nearly as obvious. 60 days of inflammation means we may never recover the atrophy on his right side, but we are pretty close to full operation now.
