Nest News: Fort St. Vrain ~ Platteville, Colorado Update by Golden 1 The Fort St. Vrain Bald Eagles are now experiencing cold and a very snowy nest. On December 26th Mom brought her lunch to the nest. When Dad came in 30 minutes later there was not much left. They made tracks all over the snowy nest blanket. The next morning all was smooth and white again. Before they lay eggs in mid to late February there will be more snow, but there will also be periods of warm weather. During this time we also encounter strong winds blowing out on the plains from the mountains. The eagles are well-insulated and their feather configuration traps warmth near their body. Happy Holidays from everyone at Fort St. Vrain. Please be safe and enjoy your time with family and friends. Our thanks to Golden 1 for the screen caps. And thanks to our partner Xcel Energy for the eagle cam at Fort St. Vrain. Follow the season with us at: birdcam.xcelenergy/Cams/Eagle_Side/Xcel_Energy_Eagle_Cams
