Net Neutrality - Comcast & Time Warner merger Its a bad idea to allow merger between two giant companies in the same field: who are monopolists and duopolists in many geographical areas; who are in many areas, each-others only potential competition; whos potential competitors access to customers is often limited by government-limited franchises and right-of-ways; whos incentives are to get cozy with incumbent politicians for the purposes of: maintaining their exclusive access to customers in the last mile, and excluding competitors: to themselves, and to to the incumbent politicians with whom they are cozy. These behemoths may not compete much with each other in many geographical areas, but they are both among the most able to mount such competition with each other. By allowing this merger, such potential competition is forever avoided, to the detriment of consumers - and possibly to the detriment of the free speech, which increasingly takes place over the internet and cable. Many Cable systems exist because of monopolistic deals with local politicians. They have never constituted a free market. They should not be allowed to further concentrate their government-granted monopolist power into larger monopolies.
