His words, as Glenn Greenwald pointed out, were hauntingly reminiscent of a comment made by Joseph Goebbels about Jews “send[ing] out the pitiable” to gain sympathy. The final act in this carnival of horrors is an interview with Bar Ilan University professor, Mordechai Kedar. He is one of Israel’s best known Arabic language instructors, though his views of Arabs are distinctly racist. But he’s outdone himself in this Israeli radio interview (audio here for Hebrew speakers) in which he said: “You have to understand the culture in which we live,” said Kedar…Terrorists like those who kidnapped the children and killed them — the only thing that deters them is if they know that their sister or their mother will be raped in the event that they are caught. What can you do, that’s the culture in which we live.” + Palestinian human rights group accuses Israel military of using shells that spray out thousands of tiny and potentially lethal darts./ theguardian/world/2014/jul/20/israel-using-flechette-shells-in-gaza BTselem, an Israeli human rights organisation, describes a flechette shell as an anti-personnel weapon that is generally fired from a tank. The shell explodes in the air and releases thousands of metal darts 37.5mm in length, which disperse in a conical arch 300 metres long and about 90 metres wide. The munitions are not prohibited under international humanitarian law, but according to BTselem, other rules of humanitarian law render their use in the Gaza Strip illegal. One of the most fundamental principles is the obligation to distinguish between those who are involved and those who are not involved in the fighting, and to avoid to the extent possible injury to those whoare not involved. Deriving from this principle is the prohibition of the use of an imprecise weapon which is likely to result in civilian injuries. The Israeli military deployed artillery shells containing white phosphorous in densely populated areas of Gaza during Operation Cast Lead in 2008 and 2009, causing scores of deaths and extensive burns. It initially issued a categorical denial of reports of the use of white phosphorous, but later admitted it, saying the weapon was only used to create smokescreens. + Jewish Rabbi condemning Israeli attack on Gaza./ https://youtube/watch?v=JaSqvutvI1k + Documents leaked: President Obama asked the Pentagon to ready approximately 2,000 combat-ready soldiers for a possible deployment to the Gaza Strip./ nationalreport.net/obama-sending-2000-troops-gaza-strip/ Documents leaked on the Internet on Monday revealed that President Barack Obama has asked the Pentagon to ready approximately 2,000 combat-ready soldiers for a possible deployment to the Gaza Strip, to aid Israel in their fight against Hamas and the Palestinians.
