Never could get my foot in the door doing painted covers for DC - TopicsExpress

Never could get my foot in the door doing painted covers for DC back in the mid-1980s. John Totleben and I had to do that COMICS JOURNAL painted cover ourselves—my pencils, Johns paints—on our own dime to turn DCs head, but that led to only John getting the painted cover gigs. Id done plenty of them before DC, and did plenty after, but it was one of many threads of frustration that led to my departure (ONE painted cover paid much more than six months of penciling/inking monthly SWAMP THING covers; after a year of doing the ST covers solo, it was like fiscal punishment to continue doing the line-drawn covers). Heres that decisive COMICS JOURNAL cover art by yours truly (concept/design/pencils) and John (the rest), 1941 by me and Rick Veitch, the rest solo cover paintings by yours truly.
