Never has a song so spoken to me at Christmas than this one! As we struggled to make our way through busy and packed stores yesterday doing last minute preparations, we felt so overwhelmed. We went to several church services last night. In one attempt, we tried to visit family only to be turned away saying the service was full and there was no room. Hmmm...kind of like Mary and Joseph when they found no room that night in Bethlehem. One service we attended seemed unorganized - like they were trying to hard. We walked up Candy Cane Lane and were shocked by the traffic - it was backed up over ten blocks in that little town just to see Santa Claus. We finally found some peace later that night in a traditional church some might be shocked we entered filled with stained glass windows, lit candles, a very short message entitled Did you find what you came looking for? which seemed to speak to us. The rest of the service was scripture readings on the Nativity story, Christmas hymns, and singing Silent Night by candlelight. Just what we needed. We came back, I lit the angel chimes and frankincense, we did our devotionals by candlelight and watched the Nativity Story movie. Such peace - especially reflecting on the reason for the season.
