Never kept a diary. But what is Facebook if it is not a kind of a diary - one that goes beyond the private pen and ink closed book to laying it all out there in digital cloud like public print. Waking up is always a time to assess something – for me at least. Whether it is a world wide issue, a national, local, or personal one. And Facebook is kind of nice in that it allows one to share all of that. So here goes – the year in review. Things went along mostly smoothly with no major changes. There was a pretty much constant attempt to keep up with roof leaks from the job of putting up a green roof on Circuit Avenue. That was disruptive and inconvenient, but its always nice to be up there looking over the town and the ocean. The Marthas Vineyard Commission gave me fits and caused me to research extensively, do measurements, take photographs, go to meetings both public and private, do sketches, drawings, write countless annoying emails, publish letters, and photographs, gather signatures on a petition, get kicked out of a meeting (figuratively, not literally), and generally used up almost all of my free time to fight the idea of a now famously defeated proposal for a famously dangerously designed addition to Beach Road. What a crazy way to spend ones time. But, it was worth it. Experimented some more with energy and delved into the Jean Pain method of creating energy using tubing and compost heat for home heating and hot water. Thus far, the work has progressed to the point where more work needs to be done. I am certain it will work. Now the job is to prove it to everyone else. Painting took a back door to fighting the Commission and ultimately the Planning Board and Selectmen who both hopped on the ill-fated (deservedly so) train. It was not until I got word that no SUP would be considered that I even started to think about painting again. But, now the work has started up again with a fresh perspective. Hooked up with Home Exchange network, and though we have not accepted any offers yet, so far we have offers from France, Holland, Miami, Manhattan, Norway, Denmark... and a bunch of other really awesomely enticing places. It definitely is interesting even if we never exchange. All these homes and peoples lives interacting with ours. It broadens our understanding of the world. Sailing saw a series of disasters. First a broken spreader from pushing the limits of the boat too far, to then seeing the diesel engine just totally die. Not good. But it made me realize how much time and money goes into this hobby of mine and maybe it is time to pull back. Plus, it really illustrated the vulnerability of being out on the water and how dependent we are on every system to work flawlessly. More improvements on the Circuit Avenue building, some new designs for furniture and cabinets. A copyright for the BAEI and listing it with the Library of Congress as a sculptural piece of art, and basically, using it to protect us from “da houseboat affair” - which has an order of removal from Building and Zoning but with very little prospect of being able to enforce it. Though, the owners of the wrecked “piece of junk” as it was designated by the town, have put their entire property up for sale. I suppose the idea is to leave its removal to the new owners. Thats one way to solve a problem! Its always something! But at least its always something interesting. Looking forward to hopefully – a peaceful and kind 2015.
