Never let the actions of two outweigh the fact that over a million Black people watching in the streets and over 60,000 kids participated doing the right thing at Bud Billiken!! We just have to continually WORK on the consciousness of many of our youth. We can NEVER just pray away the fact that our communities are filled with thousands and thousands of old and young mentally ill walking time bombs resulting over 20 years of mental health cuts, over 20 years of babies making babies, and parents who need just as much HANDS ON intervention as the youth. Bud Billiken was GREAT as I spent half the night on the streets outside my offices on 47th, and back that morning to walk the parade and participate in so many positive activities, and to see so many people enjoying this legacy, but we also get caught up in the frenzy of this crime reporting that we got lost in thanking God that no one died from it, and that over a million people did the right thing, but NO AMOUNT of police deployment can stop a walking time bomb no matter when it pops.! So with that I am back at work on these same streets today!!
