New Coles and Aldi supermarkets for Dickson A consortium comprising Coles Group Property Developments, and the locally owned Doma Group, has been selected as the successful tenderer to construct the new retail and residential development in the Dickson Group Centre. Designed by local architectural firm Cox, the development will be located on the existing car park site on the corner of Antill and Badham Streets, and will include both a full line Coles supermarket , an Aldi supermarket, and a mix of retail and commercial spaces and residential apartments. The residential component will see the construction of more than 150 studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments above the retail space, and all car parking will be visually screened and located in basement and podium levels. An integral component of the new development is the creation of New Dickson Lane, a narrow shared zone which will incorporate retail, alfresco cafe dining and high quality paving and street furniture. This investment in Dickson will bring new jobs and economic activity to the inner north. I am particularly pleased that Coles are partnering with a highly successful home grown developer like the Doma Group and Canberra based architectural firm Cox, to develop this innovative mixed use concept that will be such an important part of the inner north’s future. Coles parent company Westfarmers is one of Australia’s largest corporations, and to have them committing to a development of this size is certainly a great vote of confidence in the future of our economy. It is anticipated that construction will start later this year and that for the retail component of the development to be operational in early 2016. Once completed the new development will include 500 car spaces - more than double the amount currently on the site. Temporary car parking will be available during the construction phase.
