This newly created role offers an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to help shape and lead the next stage of development for the project management community. The overall goal is to improve the return on investment for the capital programme, by building capability to better select, control and deliver projects and programmes. The successful candidate will be tasked with driving the development of project management capability across the group through the establishment of effective business unit PMOs. This will include the need to assess capability and then develop tailored continuous improvement plans utilising best practice, tools and processes that cover the full spectrum of portfolio, project and programme management. A key responsibility will be for the establishment of an effective and vibrant international projects community that will be a vehicle to engage project professionals across the business and focus effort to aligned developments that improve performance. Capability will be base-lined and monitored through the use of structured P3M3 maturity model assessments that will lead to targeted development plans. Improving the businesses ability to assess, select and prioritise projects that deliver maximum business benefit and contribution towards strategic goals is going to be an important area of development, therefore knowledge and practical experiencing of introducing effective portfolio management techniques is a key requirement for the role. You will plan and manage the overall change programme needed to support the capability improvement plans, and critically, will ensure that stakeholders are informed and engaged at every stage of the process so that the changes are successfully implemented and embedded within the business. Therefore, effective, influential communication and motivational skills are essential for success in the role, where a top-down-tell style will simply fail - but where a consultative, passionate and creative approach to change management will ensure success both for the individual and the community. To be considered for this varied and challenging role, you will need to demonstrate previous experience of successful and sustained continuous process and programme improvement and will have personally managed a number of complex business projects using a structured project management process, as well as at least one large programme. You will possess experience and expertise in the use of portfolio management and have either helped set up or have been part of a successful Programme Management Office. You will have knowledge and experience of the latest tools and techniques used to evaluate and prioritise projects; will have undertaken P3M3 or similar and subsequently developed tailored and effective improvement plans. Realistically, you will be degree qualified and a PRINCE2 Practitioner. A self starter able to work autonomously, but also as part of a team. The job is based in Peterborough but will include some international travel as is required. This role will NOT suit the more traditional bullish or aggressive project management style prevalent in some industry sectors - but instead demands a consultative and effective practitioner who will skilfully engage, align and steer people to a higher level of project performance. We are after an engaging change manager with a wealth of project, programme and portfolio management knowledge; process minded but people focussed, who will be a catalyst for improving the returns from the capital improvement programme.
