Summary: The Senior R&D Engineer is a key engineering role providing technical expertise and project management experience to a wide range of emissions control and environmental product development projects. Responsibilities: Working closely with internal and external customers, support R&D programmes from initial concept and project definition, through to V&V completion. Support the technical interface between R&D and OEM Project Engineers/Managers, ensuring that R&D test/CAE analysis and recommendations are robust, clear and delivered on time. Identify, and present justification for, new research opportunities Develop and manage relationships with external expert suppliers and Universities. Train and mentor junior engineers. Support the Technology Manager to plan and manage departmental resources, workload and budgets. Education and Qualifications: A good Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or appropriate science based subject. Technical Knowledge and Ability: Good understanding of automotive exhaust / emissions issues and IC engine fundamentals. Expertise in any of these areas: Exhaust aftertreatment development; NVH analysis/test; durability/FEA analysis; powertrain development. Experience of interpreting CAE analysis. A broad grasp of engineering and scientific principles at professional level. A good balance of theoretical understanding and practical knowledge. Personal Qualities: Able to liaise effectively at all levels. Good verbal and written communicator with excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. Able to achieve results quickly and work with minimal supervision. Excellent problem solver.
