Tasked with the ongoing software programming and development of data acquisition and control systems in the build and test environment, the successful candidate will provide efficient testing that produces accurate and useful data, ensuring the data acquisition and control systems are programmed correctly to meet the specific needs of the project on each test cell and resolving software related problems when they may arise. Additionally you will manage the data transfer from the test platforms to internal customers and provide best practice software / test set-up related advice to others as required. You will liaise with internal customers to understand their requirements and then provide appropriate software set-ups for the data acquisition and control systems, and this will include the production of test scripts for automated testing and the production of standalone software utilities to aid the day to day testing activities. You will investigate, support and resolve software related issues using in house tools or by working with external suppliers, and will be responsible for the production of robust, reliable, efficient and reusable modular code and scripts. Striving to continually optimise and improve the software on the test systems with the aim of producing the most efficient and feature filled testing possible, you will additionally support the specification, installation and commissioning of new equipment and both educate on and encourage best use of department systems. You will also be responsible for off the shelf software used on the test cell PCs including installation, license management and fault resolution, and you will define and adhere to standards for code writing and test script writing whilst maintaining a library of code, test set ups and test scripts. Working closely with the electronics based members of the team to understand how the system hardware interacts with the system software, you will also be responsible for the management of the software behind the equipment and information database, archiving test data and code as appropriate and ensuring control system code results in safe operation of equipment for the end user and compliance with H&S guidelines. To be considered for this varied and extremely challenging but rewarding role, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will have attained a relevant software based, engineering or mechatronics degree, and will be an experienced programmer familiar with the importance of modular code, debugging, excellent annotation, efficient coding for quick operation of programs and error management. You will be proficient and experienced at coding in VB (with proficiency and experience with other languages proving distinctly advantageous) and will be a good technical thinker, preferably with experience with electrical and mechanical systems and strong general IT competency. Essentially you will demonstrate a basic knowledge of general engine mechanical and electrical operation to allow identification of incorrect engine test data, with at least 3 years experience of Engine Test bed systems CP, DSG or AVL test systems proving advantageous. With your strong understanding of design of experiment methodologies and of PID tuning with and basic control engineering principals and experience of equipment commissioning processes, this is an exceptional opportunity for a suitably experienced individual to progress their career within a genuine market leading environment.
