New Job TECHNICAL DESIGN MANAGER - JND-TDM-CHEL Industry: Engineering Job Type: Permanent Location: Cheltenham, England Salary: £45000 - £60000 per annum Technical Manager Engineering Manager / Technical Manager This is an exciting, new, career role based in Gloucestershire. It has arisen as a direct result of the growth in the Engineering Design Division of our clients company. They are a solid, established business and at the leading edge of their field. This is essentially a Director Designate position. The successful applicant will be ambitious, skilled and looking for a varied, long term role within a stable and growing business. Requirements: The successful applicant will be a skilled problem solver, one who is creative and innovate with demonstrable experience of bespoke machinery or mechanical equipment with a great many moving parts. In addition it is essential that applicants are well-rounded Engineers with a hands on management style, leading from the front. Responsibilities: *Provide support to the Technical Director and run the Drawing Office in his absence *Work with the design teams to produce effective designs on time and to budget *Work on existing designs, enhancing machine functionality and safety *Problem solve and provide technical solutions *The Engineering / Technical Manager will innovate, design and develop new equipment and be able to interpret customers specifications *Liaise with customers on technical and sales related matters *To have contractual awareness and be able to hold discussions with customers and suppliers *Work on equipment onsite to resolve process and technical issues *Manage machine builds from conception to commissioning on clients premises. *To design rugged equipment suitable for the industry we serve, and to meet 3 shift reliability performances *To design equipment with lowest practical energy consumption and minimum affect on the environment *Carry out risk assessments and be aware of safety issues and their effect on machine design *Travel overseas as required Skills and Experience: *Recent experience of working in an Engineering environment and within a Design Office *Qualified to Degree level in Mechanical Engineering *Good communication skills - written and verbal *Be a problem solver with the ability to analyse a situation and provide a timely solution *To have a solid working knowledge and understanding of machine techniques and equipment *Hands on management experience *To have considerable work experience with in the design of mechanical equipment, experience of assembly machines advantageous (possibly packing machines or similar) *Perform design calculations for mechanical components, drives and structures *Able to communicate ideas and to follow through to produce a new machine with the full involvement of a team of people Additional Desirable Skills and Experience *It would be advantageous to also have a working knowledge of pneumatics and/or to possess an understanding of electrical control systems Salary: £50,000.
