Birds Mentioned and Counties: Neotropic Cormorant (Mora) YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON (San Miguel) RED-SHOULDERED HAWK (Catron) GRAY HAWK (Eddy) CAROLINA WREN (Socorro) Hermit Warbler (Hidalgo) Hooded Oriole (Santa Fe) CATRON County: --Rustay and Hetrick photographed a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK in Apache Creek July 12. It was found between the Tularosa River bridge and Apache Creek Campground. It was relocated July 21 by Dern. EDDY County: --Nieman reported a returning GRAY HAWK at Rattlesnake Springs on March 21. It continued to July 27. HIDALGO County: --Rustay and Hetrick reported three HERMIT WARBLERS in Clanton Canyon July 26. MORA County: --Egelhoff reported a NEOTROPIC CORMORANT at Charette Lakes July 19. SAN MIGUEL County: --Kendall Kroesen photographed a YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON in Las Vegas June 9. It was seen along the Pecos Arroyo near the Best Western Montezuma Inn. Karen Herzenberg reported a YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON near this location along the Cinder Rd River Walk in Las Vegas July 31. SANTA FE County: --Doremus reported a male HOODED ORIOLE at her Santa Fe home August 3. Call her for more details (505) 476-5397. SOCORRO County: --CAROLINA WRENS have been reported along the seasonal road at Bosque del Apache NWR. Three continued for Pederson July 13. They were located in the dense vegetation near the first turn along the Seasonal Road where it heads east. The NM Burrowing Owl Working Group is seeking reports of Burrowing Owl sightings year-round.
