New Research Article Received :- VARIATION IN PHOSPHORUS ACCUMULATION IN GROUNDNUT CULTIVARS AS INFLUENCED BY WATER SALINITY DebaratiBhaduri*, H.N. Meena and K. Chakraborty Directorate of Groundnut Research (ICAR), Junagadh-362001, Gujarat, India ABSTRACT An experiment was conducted to assess the changing phosphorus uptake pattern in different plant parts in different levels ofsoil salinity. For this, eight Spanish groundnut cultivars were grown in a field trialhaving in-build soil salinity developed over a period of ten yearswith four levels (0.5, 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 dSm-1) of saline irrigations (ECiw). Being a key element in determining crop growth, nutrition and economic yield, phosphorus was found to accumulate variably under saline condition in different plant parts in these cultivars. Root-P was observed to have an increasing trend of accumulation upto 6.0 ECiw while leaf-P increased upto 4.0 ECiw with a concomitant rise in available soil P. The cultivars TG 37A and GG 7 proved to be better in terms of leaf-P and root-P accumulationover four salinitylevels. However, across the cultivars the P-uptake was reduced when the applied ECiw was 6.0 dS m-1. Further, these P accumulation parameters correlated with the yield and yield attributes of groundnut crop.
