New Wines for the New Year, New Year!!! French Whites & I Talian Reds - Sante & Cin Cin!! We would like to thank everyone for a successful 2013! You made it our best year ever and we had a lot of fun along the way! Now we look forward with great anticipation to an even better 2014! What I love most about the wine business is that with each year we encounter changes in vintages. Will our favorite be as good as last year’s? Will it even better this year? What will be the new hot wine that everyone has to have? What fun! Let’s start off right with five New Wines for the New Year. We begin with a very consistent old friend, the Chateau Bonnet Blanc - a delicious blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle. It’s a classic style white Bordeaux that pares well with cheeses, fish and lighter fare. Jean Marc Lafage is produced by a very sought after wine maker in Southern France, and when you taste the Cote d’Est you will understand why. This is a lovely blend of Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay and Marsanne that creates wonderful layers of flavor. A red wine drinker’s white wine! The Cecchi Sangiovese is an easy to drink ‘food’ wine that pairs perfectly with your favorite tomato sauce entree. Vajra Langhe is a taste of Piedmont in a bottle - a blend of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. The vines produce fruity crisp wines with good structure. This is an ideal food wine and is sure to be a favorite with our friends going to Pizzetta’s for dinner. Niel Santofimia is another incredible value wine from Spain. This wine received 90 points and proves that you can drink very well without breaking the bank. Only 2,500 cases imported. 2012 Chateau Bonnet Blanc, Bordeaux, France Regularly $11.99 This Week Only $10.79 An excellent example of everyday wine. Succulent aromas of pear and tropical fruit, nervous and expressive on the palate, clean finish and well-defined. Intelligent, vibrant, yet easy to drink. 2012 Domain Lafage Cote d’Est, Cote Catalanes, France Regularly $11.99 This Week Only $10.79 Really lovely nose on this wine, like a blend of pear and peach, highlighted by zesty orange and lime and floral notes. And the palate doesn’t disappoint either. More pear/peach and lime with a mineral streak. Very nice texture, too. Almost plush, though the fruit stays bright. Finishes clean and long. 2011 Cecchi Sangiovese, Toscana, Italy Regularly $17.99 This Week Only $16.19 Fresh and fruity, offering cherry, raspberry, floral and spice flavors. Balanced and firm, with dusty tannins.” 2011 Vajra Langhe, Piedmont, Italy Regularly $16.99 This Week Only $15.29 A hue of violet red. Aromas of red fruits, plums, underbrush as well as floral and spicy fragrances intrigue your senses from the very first moment. A nice correspondence on the palate where hints of almond, black pepper and Asian spices come together for a nice refreshing finish. 2011 Niel Santofimia, Almansa, Spain Regularly $13.99 This Week Only $12.59 85% garnacha tintorera and 15% merlot. This delightful wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for three months in older French oak. Opaque ruby in color with black and blue fruits on the highly fragrant, smoke-accented nose. Juicy, penetrating blueberry and bitter cherry flavors display very good clarity and pick up sweetness and spiciness with air. Fine-grained tannins give shape and grip to the long, spicy finish. Superb value here. The Wine Sampler 4107 - C Oleander Dr Wilmington, NC 28403 910-796-WINE/9463 thewinesampler
