New Years Day has always had extra importance for my family and this first day of the new year is no exception. You see, the first day of each year is also my Moms birthday. In years past my sisters and I always prepared dishes that were my Moms favorites and we all gathered together for supper to celebrate her birthday. Remembering even further back, as we girls were growing up, my sweet Mom did the same thing for each of us. She would ask each of us what we wanted for our birthday meal and she always lovingly prepared it. I have seen that same tradition carried on with my sisters and their children. Tradition was always important to my Mom and she instilled that appreciation in each of us. This year will obviously be different. My Mom has a new birthday....July 19th is the day she started her new life in Heaven with our precious Jesus. We wont be preparing a special meal for her this day but will be going to visit her resting place instead. Perhaps in future years we will revert back to the tradition of preparing her favorite meal for New Years Day but this year it is still too fresh and painful. I miss her terribly!
