New Yorks Finest. The upholders of justice. The keepers of the peace. I see more and more videos like this everyday, an its disheartening, mainly because there still are a lot of righteous cops out there. But the law is no longer meant to uphold justice and peace. The law has been twisted, rephrased, contorted, and frayed. Time and precedence has perverted laws which at the core were once just. Laws that were once surrounded by the increasingly unfamiliar but innate gray area. Like the ancient city surrounded by the vast jungle. This is the vagueness where true humanity resides. A rapidly diminishing sphere that has no control, because control is an illusion within the cities walls. This gray area, this jungle, is referred to as reality. The law states that this man is trespassing. The gray area states; this is a man of religious principles and a man who devotes his time to a place that is meant to help the younger generation. Most would define him as a good man. But is he not imperfect? Is his only crime that he desires a warm place to sleep? is this a violent crime? Now upholding these ever increasing laws is no easy task. There is a selflessness required. An aversion to the corruptions of power must exist within a man. Accompanying this inner power struggle are the pressures from societies external forces. Pressures from political authorities whom require a quota of arrests from their officers. Stress from the threatening of their livelihood in an increasingly desperate world. Or maybe the influences of organizational traditions and bravado. I believe our laws are certainly a reflexion of ourselves. Of our own ignorance and our own brilliance. Of our own fear of the world outside of our city walls. The application of these laws was meant to protect the brilliance of the man from the ignorance of the masses. The reality is that laws do not protect every man. Laws protect the man with the power. The application of a law itself is a defeat against the inner struggle of power. As I am exposed to more and more of these injustices every day, through alternative media and everyday occurrences of life within the city walls. I cant help but to conclude that within this society, there is no justice, there is no peace. There is only vengeance and violence. There is only the powerful and the powerless. There is only survival. So I will attempt to live my life in the gray, for as long as I am able. I will seek peace and justice in the only place that they can be found. Within the gray, within myself... But hell maybe that rabbi was a real asshole
