New Zealand has a problem with introduced deer and the Greens - TopicsExpress

New Zealand has a problem with introduced deer and the Greens policy favours the NZ response - 1080 and associated poisons. However, while NZ boasts only two native mammal species, both bats, Australia is positively seething with mammals and carrion eaters, not to mention the meat and carrion eating raptors etc. One wonders how the Greens voting faithful can think the poisoning option is more humane or more ecologically friendly than hunting. What 1080 does to the water supply one can only speculate about, but the Greens oppose hunting on the grounds that hunters leave carcasses behind to contaminate catchments. So, what, its better to leave rotting carcasses contaminated with 1080 in the catchment?
