New at the visitor center this fall - a band of Desert bighorn - TopicsExpress

New at the visitor center this fall - a band of Desert bighorn sheep has been seen frequently crossing Rim Rock Drive, munching grasses at the edge of the visitor center parking lot and near the picnic area, and resting between the building and Canyon Rim Trail. Drivers and bicyclists are asked to heed the 15 mph speed limit in the area; photographers and wildlife enthusiasts are asked to keep a distance of 75’ between yourselves and the sheep. The monument is a refuge for wildlife; an area where they can not only survive but thrive, if we do our part by respecting their home territory. Last spring, Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife estimated there to be between 40-50 sheep living primarily within the monument with approximately 200 sheep in the greater area including the monument and Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness.
