New coach,New era for Bafana Bafana squad! It is in the early hours of Friday just after (12:00) CAT,Millions of fans and supporters from around South Africa and the World at large are eagerly waiting for Shakes Mashabas first squad announcement as Bafana Bafana coach since he was named as Gordon Igesunds successor last month. As per usual there is bound to be debates as to who should and shouldnt have been in the squad, and this time it was no different.Big name and on form players are not in the squad (Letsholonyane , Serero , Mabena , Mashamaite...) and others are not in the squad and the doomsayers are at it again saying it will be all doom & gloom for Bafana Bafana. The fact of the matter is with a new coach there is bound to be new changes, and drastic decisions have to be made yet again be adressed;one such example is Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, having had a good pre-season with the red devils everyone thought it was going to be an easy win against Swansea but they had another thing coming and now they are blasting his tactics & formation. Shakes Mashabas contract doesnt have a clause like that of Gordon Igesund, meaning there are no targets set for him.But he has set himself the targets with his youthful squad;speaking at the press conference Mashaba said it wasnt easy to select from such a talented pool but stressed the need for young players. It is very interesting to select the national team players, but there is also the difficult side of it,especially at this level where there are several good players in different positions. There is huge talent in this country. I chose a big squad because we are playing two crucial matches in a short space of time, and we dont want to leave anything to chance, said the Bafana mentor. As you can see in terms of age,we would like to align ourselves with the SAFA vision 2022 where South Africa would be among the best on the continent and in the world. To reach that target, along the way we will come across several like 2015 Morocco Afcon, the 2016 Rio Olympics,2017 Libya Afcon, the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, among others. It would be great to play in those tournaments hence the young players we have selected as part of a long-term vision. But we also looked at current form, and some players are unfortunate not be part of the squad because they are talented but they dont have the momentum yet as the league has just started. All we ask for now is support from the public for this project we are working on. I have formulated an mini in depth analysis to show, why I personally think we are in the right direction with Shakes Mashaba : 1 / Dumisani Msibi , Ayabulela Magqwaka , Rivaldo Coetzee (Nhlakanipho Ntuli & Siyanda Ngubo RESERVES) are part of the current U-20 side that recently drew with Cameroon, with Ngubo scoring the equaliser to make it easy for the lads.Ayabulela Magqwaka is captain of the Amajita squad, meaning another leader for Bafana Bafana. 2 / Ramahlwe Mphahlele , Andile Jali , Kamohelo Mokotjo , Eric Mathoho , Mandla Masango & Bongani Khumalo were part of the U-20 squad, that qualified for World Cup in Egypt 2009 after finishing fourth in CAF African Youth Championship. 3 / Ramahlwe Mphahlele , Mandla Masango , Bongani Ndulula were part of the red hot U-23 side that was coached by Shakes Mashaba. 4 / Ramahlwe Mphahlele was captain of the U-23 side whilst Bongani Ndululula had a 100% goal scoring record 13 games 13 goals. 5 / Andile Jali , Oupa Manyisa & Senzo Meyiwa were part of the Orlando Pirates team that reached 4 finals incl. CAF Champions League. Bafana Bafana play Sudan in Khartoum on 5 september, and fly back home on the following day to prepare for the game against Nigeria in Cape Town,10 september.
