New discoveries about human development are important when they lead to strategies for action. What will this early intervention look like for children with autism? My guess is that prepared environments encouraged by Montessori Assistants to Infancy and RIE programs, hold important information for parents of very young infants, no matter what kind of brains they have developed. These two approaches for early development are at the frontier of early intervention when the childs personality is most easily influenced. “A new study reveals that autism may begin during pregnancy. Scientists analyzed postmortem tissue samples from children with autism as well as typically developed children. What they discovered is that, as far back as the second trimester, certain cells are not where they are supposed to be in the brains of autistic children.”
