New era for PIRSA in SA’s Mid North South Australia’s Mid North region will benefit with the opening of a new Clare office for Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA). Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Minister Leon Bignell said the new White Hut Road site marked the next step in strengthening PIRSA’s work in the Yorke and Mid North region. “After 30 years at the Old North Road site, the new PIRSA home at Clare will consolidate PIRSA’s presence in the region and will bring immediate efficiencies and benefits for PIRSA and the community,” he said. “The move provides PIRSA with substantial shedding, office accommodation, and room for new facilities including laboratories. “Staff are moving vehicles, equipment and machinery into the new sheds from the Turretfield Research Farm and the Old North Road site, in preparation for the harvest season. “The new Clare office will be PIRSA’s hub for the Yorke and Mid North, and will play a significant role in the region with staff from right across PIRSA offering a range of services to the community.” Services to be provided from the new site include consulting, business and technical advice to regional agricultural providers, research scientists providing advice on climate applications, plant and soil health, crop improvement and new variety agronomy, and animal health services including disease control and monitoring and property registration. Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock said that today’s launch event was a great moment for the region and for PIRSA. “The new site is ideal, with this move to White Hut Road over the next year offering a location to bring government, industry and community more closely together in their work, and meet their ongoing needs,” he said. “PIRSA will now be able to develop facilities that are available for greater community and industry use, creating a direct conduit for opportunities for regional economic development across the broader region, encouraging better community engagement, and reinforcing the Government’s commitment to regions.” PIRSA will undertake a staged move of staff, equipment and services to the White Hut Road site over the next twelve months. PIRSAs front counter service at Old North Road will remain open to the community until that move is complete.
