New guideline on novel foods The Health and Agriculture Ministers from the ten Australian and NZ governments (the Legislative and Governance Forum on Food Regulation) have published a new Policy Guideline on Novel Foods. Covered by Standard 1.5, they derive from or contain foods from GM and irradiation (nano-materials, synthetic biology, etc. soon?). These foods have zero or minimal history of safe use. FSANZ will apply the policy to its review of the labels now required on all irradiated foods, likely to approve an end to the requirement. If irradiation labelling goes, which label will be next to fall?
