Propeller Communications Manager Job Description: Propeller: A Force for Social Innovation seeks a full-time Communications Manager whose responsibilities will include brand management, visual identity, public relations, written communications, messaging, marketing, social media, basic graphic design, and event management. Propeller is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting social innovation in New Orleans. We help launch and support early-stage companies—for-profits, nonprofits, and hybrids—that have the potential to solve our city’s most pressing social and environmental challenges. Job Duties Increase public awareness of Propeller’s brand and impact at local and national level to target audiences Writes and reviews all external communications (i.e. press releases, newsletters, blog posts, website copy, ad copy, emails, etc.) Develops relationships with media outlets and secures coverage of Propeller’s programs and entrepreneurs in local, region and national publications Maintains integrity to Propeller’s brand, mission, and message Constantly stays up-to-date on best practices, trends, and innovative developments in brand strategy, visual design, etc. Coordinates and supervises graphic designers, photographers, and videographers to develop visually appealing and professional collateral materials (i.e. brochure, annual report, website, etc.) Implements social media strategy on day-to-day level (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, blog, Pinterest, Vimeo, etc.) Implements all website edits and improvements Leads planning, marketing, and logistics for all events (i.e. Propeller Gala and PitchNOLA) Supports Executive Director on donor management and grantwriting Develops, implements, and evaluates an annual communications plan in collaboration with Propeller leadership team. Ensures that the communication strategy aligns with Propeller’s vision and goals. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Skills and Experiences Very strong creative and analytical writer with highly developed proofreading skills to ensure all materials are accurate and high-quality Ability to write and edit for a variety of audiences Exceptional attention to detail and desire to get things right Superior written and verbal communication skills, coupled with highly developed interpersonal skills A “go-getter” and self-starter who is comfortable speaking with reporters, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and community members Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to set concrete goals, organize, and prioritize within short timeframe Flexible and open to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within compressed timeframes Ability to quickly grasp complex business concepts and policy work and express them in clear language Understanding of branding principles and tactics Creative and analytical Embraces measurement and statistics Strong work ethic Passion for social innovation Excellent judgment Quick and curious learner who is passionate about marketing and is willing to learn organizational software and platforms (i.e. Adobe InDesign, Mailchimp, website content management system, etc.) Weekend and evening hours may be required during special events.
