New model of “Mao Zedong Locomotive” starts operation An upgraded locomotive named after late Chinese leader #MaoZedong (1893-1976) was put in use on Thursday. The 6th generation of such #locomotive pulling the T1 #train from Beijing to Changsha arrived in Hunan Province, home to Chairman Mao on Friday, which marked the 121st anniversary of Maos #birth. The new locomotive bearing the portrait of Mao Zedong has a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour. Its first steam #model was named after Mao in 1946 in Harbin City in northeast Chinas Heilongjiang Province. The locomotive traveled southward with the Peoples Liberation Army in 1949. In 1978, steam was replaced by diesel at the Dalian Locomotive Plant. The new model is electric and belongs to the Beijing Railway Bureau The Mao Zedong Locomotive has had a perfectly safe record for 9.63 million kilometers over the past 68 years.
