New races that will set the first eight rows for Saturday’s Sunoco Race Fuels North-South 100 at Florence Speedway in Union, Ky., have been dubbed the Geri Ramey Memorial Twin Dashes in honor of the late fiancee of long-time racing publicist Ryan Delph. Ramey, of North Vernon, Ind., died July 27th at a battle with colon cancer; she had previous beaten stage IV cervical cancer nine years earlier. She was 43. “We met at the North-South 100 eight years ago and Florence was one of her favorite racetracks, so it just made sense to do something at this race annually,” Delph said. “I want to thank the King family, (assistant series director) Rick Schwallie, and the rest of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series staff for the opportunity to memorialize Geri at a race she loved to attend.” The dashes will carry $1,500 in extra money from Delph Communications with $500 for first, $150 for second and $100 for third of each dash. The races are part of Florence’s new format for Kentucky’s richest Dirt Late Model race. The top 16 drivers in passing points following Friday’s two sets of heat races will compete in each dash, one which will set the inside-row starters among the first eight rows of the 100-lapper, the other which will set the outside-row starters in the main event.
