New song called The Pessimistic Optimist and its definitely one of the most cynical things Ive ever written. I started it a while ago when I was going through a pretty rough patch and just finished it. (Lyrics below) Broken and bleeding I lift my head. Swimming visions beckon me to join the dead. Falling and failing my hand goes out to break my fall, but the efforts proven useless. Theres nothing left in me at all. When the shadows gather in strength and the sirens sound their call, and the powerful start to crumble and the swift begin to crawl. When the genius cant remember and the lion eats the lamb, when the screams become the voices that sound the calmest in the land. This is the thrill of the future. In this we hope, we die, we trust. And we put our faith in steel crutches until the gleam gives way to rust. And our leaders tumble to dust. In this land of pessimistic optimism we all fall in line. We idolize leaders and conform to standards, afraid to be left behind. And the voiceless become the victims, just the way that its always been. And men swear theyll change and theyre given chances, then they victimize again. But Ive gotta believe that we can change. That everything wont stay the same. That i can rise above suspicion and regret. That not every seemingly good man hides some secret threat. This is the thrill of the future. In this we hope, we die, we trust.
