New superintendent, the real deal...... At an informal reception held Sunday afternoon, Ed Sellers, assistant superintendent/ athletic director, introduced Dr. David Stephens, Vilonia School District’s new superintendent, as “the real deal.” Sellers said when he looked at the list of candidates being interviewed for the job and met with them during the interview process, he knew Stephens “was the one.” Sellers also credited the Vilonia Board of Education for their “wisdom” in making the right decision. Dr. Stephens said he has been comfortable assuming his role as the Vilonia School District’s new superintendent. “I have felt nothing but welcome since I got here,” he said, addressing a gathering of 75 or so. Jokingly, Stephens said he hopes “nice things” are still being said about him a year from now. In conclusion, he said he had lunch recently with some coaches. The table, he said, was full and all were taking part in conversation regarding “kids and their home lives,” struggles and what they could do as coaches to help on and off the field. He touted the praises of the coaches. Also, he said, that was further evidence to him that he is at the right place and that kids are what matters most in the school district. “You don’t always hear that from coaches,” Dr. Stephens said.
