New to campbell river with my dog. Question of local etiquette for everyone. I took my 10 yr old, 30 pound dumb lab x spayed dig for a walk this afternoon. I walk her on a seven foot rope leash. Backstory- Lemmy (my dog) had gone to parks and played with dogs nicely however after she was attacked once she is mistrustful of dogs when she is tied or on her leash. She fought with a stray/loose dog on her rope in the back yard and once when an aggressive loose dog attacked while we were walking in kelowna. Now Im absolutely about safety. I would never condone aggressive behaviour from my dig but as she literally got attacked while tied and unable to get away, i have not been concerned. Until today- walking my goofy dog too get the kids from the school bus stop, a gentleman was walking his dogs about half s block ahead of us. He slowed down, waited for us to get closer, then uncooked his dog from its leash and sent it over to me and my dog. I was mortified. Terrified actually. Lemmy ran behind me. I scooped up my dog over my shoulder. She was shaking like a leaf. The other dog owner seemed very offended that i asked him to leash his dog claiming his dog is fine. Politely iexplained mine was not. I carried my dog for a block after that. So question. Is this normal? Im told this is s dog town. Is it normal for people to encourage dog play in places you would assume are leashed only areas? What if my six year old had her? This is bothering me.
