Newark Police Arrest Two for Robbery On July 20th at approximately 1:33 AM, Newark Police responded to the Red Roof Inn (1119 South College Ave) in response to a loud party complaint. The victims advised that they were trying to sleep in their motel room but couldn’t due to noise coming from a nearby room. The victims went outside to ask the noisy guests to be quiet. After their attempts were met with negative results, two victims attempted to call 911 while still outside their room. While doing so, Maurice Cruz-Webster attempted to grab a cell phone out of one of the victim’s hands. Sherman Pride then successfully grabbed another victim’s phone. A third victim was punched by Pride in the face. NPD stopped the suspect’s vehicle on scene and arrested the defendants listed below. Defendant #1: Maurice Cruz-Webster (DOB 05/18/1994) 2503 N Jefferson Street Wilmington DE, 19802 Charges: Robbery 2nd Degree Conspiracy 2nd Degree Offensive Touching Malicious Interference with Emergency Communications Defendant #2: Sherman Pride 208 E Highland Blvd New Castle, DE 19720 Charges: Robbery 2nd Degree Conspiracy 2nd Degree 2 cts. Offensive Touching The victims suffered minor facial injuries. The victim’s cell phone was recovered near where the SUV was stopped and returned to the victim. Both defendants were committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $1,700 secured bail each.
