Newbury! We need you... Deborah Chester is organising the local event there and has run up against one of those charities who feels were promoting a lifestyle... Though well meaning, such projects can be seen to encourage rough sleeping and I have asked [Name of shelter] not to get involved. I appreciate this may sound unhelpful, however our aim is to get rough sleepers off of the streets and not to make life more comfortable for them while they are rough sleeping. Now, while we all want to see people safely off the streets and into accommodation, we all know the reality is that it isnt happening and they will not disappear any time soon. And, any time soon is when the freezing weather will be here again and they will be out there freezing to death. So, while I hear this argument several times a year from well meaning *funded* organisations who have great intentions, but too few resources, well continue to make life just a little more bearable for those living rough until they can be assisted into accommodation.
