Newington Little Leagues U12 team improved to 3-1 with a 5-3 win over West Hartford tonjght in a game at Volunteer Field. With Ethan Errera for Newington and Ryan Druckenmiller of West Harftord getting the starts on the mound, it looked like both teams would be locked up in a pitchers duel. After a scoreless first two innings, West Hartford struck first in the top of the third inning stringing together two doubles. Newington, who was held hitless the first two innings, answered back with a single by Logan Trommer, a double by Jason Boghosian, and RBI singles by Mike Sobolewski and Tony DeBlasio to take a 2-1 lead after 3 innings. West Hartford threatened in th fourth with two hits, but Errera worked out of the jam for the last two outs. Newington scored another run after Zach Nakonechny lead off the fourth with a single and after getting to 3B , WH botched a pick off play on a double steal. Ethan retired WH in order in the fifth NLL added two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two run homer by Zac Callahan. Errera got the first two outs of the sixth but reached the pitch count limit. WH added two runs on a homer but NLL held on for a 5-3 victory. Ethan had 7Ks tonight and allowed only one run and 5 hits in 5 2/3 innings. In two All Star starts he has 17Ks and allowed two runs. NLL faces East Hartford Saturday at 3PM at Volunteer Field. (Stats provided by Erin Sobolewski)
