#News: Ambassador Berhane Gebre-Christos meets the Secretary General of #Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade State Minister, Ambassador Berhane Gebre-Christos, held discussions with Mr. Niall Burgess, Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland on Tuesday (September 9). Ambassador Berhane said Ethiopia much appreciated the effective Irish pro-poor development cooperation. He noted that Ethio-Irish relations were based on wide ranging issues of mutual interest and said Ireland’s support to Ethiopias green economic development endeavor was very significant. The State Minister briefed Mr. Burgess on the growth and development progress of Ethiopia and on its future potential in relation to economic integration in Eastern Africa sub-region. He also expressed the need to redouble efforts to strengthen investment and trade ties between the two countries. Ambassador Berhane also noted that Ethiopia was committed to fight against terrorism in the Horn region in close collaboration and coordination with other countries and partners aiming at creating a stable, harmonious and prosperous region. He also underlined that Ethiopia remained seized to regional peace and stability with the view to accelerate the fight against poverty and better the livelihoods of the people. Mr. Burgess welcomed the impressive and sustainable development that Ethiopia had achieved over the last two decades. He said the Irish Government was willing to encourage investors to look at trade and investment opportunities in Ethiopia, and emphasized that it was ready to work together with Ethiopia in the area of Climate Resilient Green Economic Development. He said that Ethiopian Airlines’ direct flights from Ethiopia to Ireland would boost the linkage between Africa in general and Ethiopia in particular. Mr. Burgess pointed out that Ireland could share best experience in the area of agricultural research, aviation training, Diaspora engagement strategy and some technological areas, adding that creating people-to-people and business-to-business relations between the two countries was important. mfa.gov.et/news/more.php?newsid=3465
