News: I did not receive the womens studies first book prize. It was a great honor to be chosen as a finalist and that really helped confirm the importance of writing in my life. I feel so lucky to have a supportive group of friends who believe in me and this project. I did meet with an editor at Oxford University, so Im going to try that next after deepening some explanations of Sanskrit words (ideas like karma, dharma, etc.) It may be that I should go with a mainstream press, but the scholarship is important to me and I want to make sure the idea that feminism and yoga are deeply intertwined ways of healing the world gets validated, supported, and upheld by the academy, paving the way for others to do this work within the system. One reason that I did not get this is that my writing is very yoga-focused, so I am going to attempt to study Sanskrit and build up my knowledge in that arena. For now, I am focused on job applications, writing, and ramping up my yoga practice. I have some articles on yoga and meditation which you may enjoy at amychamp/articles Im excited to be speaking in a panel on women and yoga at the American Academy of Religion next week. Two of my dissertation advisors are on the panel (which I organized), so it should be a good chance to share, coordinate and keep on keepin on!! xo #update
