News: Lithuania Training ‘Very Productive’ But Not Enough, Says Gilas Coach Chot Reyes “Very productive training camp.” That was how coach Chot Reyes summed up the sojourn of Philippine national men’s basketball team in Lithuania this month. The SMART-Gilas Pilipinas squad went up against club and age group teams while the players also used the trip as an opportunity to bond on and off the court. Even the team’s coaches got valuable inputs from former Lithuanian national team coach Kestutis Kemzura, who worked with the squad during the trip. But Reyes said the Lithuania trip isn’t quite enough for the team’s preparations for the FIBA Asia Championship in August. “No, we’re not at the stage of preparation we need to be with 43 days left. And I don’t think we’ll ever be fully prepared given the time afforded to us. So, we just do our best,” said Reyes. “The key is to play as many tournament games as possible. Unfortunately, all our efforts for quality matches are not materializing as most of the teams we’re calling have already set their June/July schedules.” Gilas preparations took a setback after the team’s invitation to participate in the William Jones Cup was withdrawn by organizers amid tensions between the Philippines and Taiwan. The national squad is scheduled to return to the Philippines, where it will embark on a series of exhibition matches against a selection of PBA players. The games will be played in Cebu, Davao, and Manila. Original Link: interaksyon/interaktv/lithuania-training-very-productive-but-not-enough-says-gilas-coach-chot-reyes
