News Monday July 21st HebCelt another success The 19th Hebridean Celtic Festival drew to a close on Saturday night after another successful four-day entertainment feast. The event enjoyed the hottest weather of the year, but also put up with rain on Saturday night to reach a rousing finale from headlining band The Levellers. Police said it had been a good humoured and trouble-free event, with only one arrest, of a 46-year-old man who was drunk and incapable at the site at 10pm on Saturday. He’s to pay a fixed penalty of £300 and will have to pay for the seizure and return of his car after he has shown proof of getting insurance. A 32-year-old man’s in court from custody today after being found acting in a threatening and abusive manner and in posession of a knife in Plasterfield just before midnight on Saturday. Rockall record-breaker Rockall hermit Nick Hancock landed at Leverburgh yesterday, safely back in civilisation after a record-breaking 45 days on Rockall. The Edinburgh record-breaker had actually cut short his visit after losing supplies in a storm, but still beat previous record-holders by several days. He was carried back to Leverbrugh by Captain Angus Smith of Stornoway on the cruise boat Orca III. While he was bring picked up several of the crew from the Kilda Cruises boat and STV cameraman Michael Skelly went onto the rock as did Captain Smith, who achieved his ambition of landing on the rock on his sixth visit to Rockall. Silver for Kerry Uist cyclist Kerry MacPhee was on the prizewinners’ podium at the weekend when she won a silver medal at the British Mountain Bike Championships, just days ahead of her competitions beginning at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Kerry has been fighting back to health whilst taking antibiotics for an infected injury, and said: “I focused on just riding, not pushing too hard and trying to enjoy the race. Although I felt rotten it paid off and I am super pleased to take silver!”
