News Release - Tomah Police Department Incident Type: Narcotics Investigation Incident Date: August 2, 2014 Incident Location: City of Tomah Subjects Involved: Jesus Sanchez, DOB 11-23-1976 McAllen, TX Charges: Delivery of Cocaine >40 grams 961.41(1)(cm)4, Felony Possession w/ intent to deliver cocaine >40 grams 961.41 (1m)(cm)4, Felony Danny Mercado, DOB 2-9-1983 Aurora, IL Charges: Delivery of cocaine >40grams 961.41(1)(cm)4 Possession w/intent to deliver cocaine >40 grams 961.41(1m)(cm)4 Incident Brief: On August 2, 2014, information was obtained that two male subjects, later identified as Jesus Sanchez and Danny Mercado, were going to be in the Camp Douglas and Tomah area with a large amount of cocaine to be distributed. Additional information indicated that these subjects had been distributing cocaine in the Tomah, Lacrosse, Wilton, and Camp Douglas areas. During the investigation Detectives were able to make arrangements with Sanchez and Mercado to deliver 10 ounces of cocaine to an undercover officer in Tomah. The agreed upon price was $10,000.00. On August 2, 2014 Sanchez delivered 8 ounces of cocaine to the undercover officer in the City of Tomah. Sanchez was immediately arrested. Mercado was located and arrested a short time later in the vicinity of where Sanchez was arrested. A search of Mercado resulted in a motel key being located. A search of the motel room resulted in locating an additional 21 ounces of cocaine and $13,000 cash. Sanchez and Mercado were transported to the Monroe County jail. The street value of 29 ounces of cocaine is approximately $82,000. This case remains under investigation. This case was investigated by the newly formed Monroe County Joint Investigative Task Force (MCJITF). The MCJITF is multijurisdictional unit, comprised of three officers from the Tomah Police Department, Sparta Police Department, and the Monroe County Sheriffs Department. The mission of the MCJITF is to investigate high profile crimes, drug related crimes that have county wide implications, and/or other crimes where a dedicated group of investigators may increase the probability of solving a serious crime. Agencies assisting in this investigation included officers from the Tomah Police Department, Sparta Police Department, Monroe County Sheriffs Department, Juneau County Sheriffs Dept, Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force, and West Central Metropolitan Enforcement Group.
