News Release October 04, 2014 U.S. Coast Guard Contact: 14th District Public Affairs Email: [email protected] Office: (808) 535-3230 MOTORCYCLE CRASH VICTIM RECEIVING TREATMENT IN OAHU AFTER MEDEVAC HONOLULU — A Maui man is receiving treatment in Oahu after he sustained severe injuries during a motorcycle accident on Maui Saturday. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Command Center Honolulu received a request from Maui Memorial Hospital regarding the transport of the 37-year-old man. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was briefed and recommended a medevac based on the patients condition. An HC-130 Hercules aircrew launched from Air Station Barbers Point approximately 6:40 a.m. The Hercules was identified as the most capable and readily available aircraft to conduct the medevac. The Coast Guard partnered with a two-person Disaster Medical Assistance Team from Oahu who provided in-flight care. The patient was safely transferred to awaiting EMS at Air Station Barbers Point approximately 8:45 a.m. The patients condition is not known. This mission truly demonstrates the flexibility and professionalism of Coast Guard aircrews who are ready to respond to any call for assistance, said HC-130 pilot Lt. Cmdr. Garrett Faulkner. In partnering with medical professionals, we were able to quickly provide coordinated medical assistance to an individual in need. The Coast Guard regularly conducts medevac missions that span thousands of miles across the Central and South Pacific and partners with civilian medical teams as necessary to provide care for patients during transport. The HC-130H is scheduled to be replaced by the new HC-130J which will provide increased speed and mission capability to the Pacific region.
