News coming from Spitfire radio 6 nov 2013 Tenor Alfie Boe goes coolly contemporary at Birmingham LG Arena Acclaimed singer moves away from traditional operatic repertoire at new Birmingham show Alfie Boe - ‘The Nation’s Favourite Tenor’ - has announced a new UK arena tour for November and December 2014, including a date at Birmingham LG Arena. The announcement of the Birmingham date, on Thursday, December 11, 2014, follows the launch of Alfie’s new album ‘Trust’ which is due for release on November 11. A spokesman said: Alfie Boe has moved further away from his traditional operatic repertoire on ‘Trust’ the follow up to 2012’s hugely successful ‘Storyteller’ and has never sounded so coolly contemporary. Working with legendary producer Larry Klein, Alfie applies his extraordinary voice to a soulful set of country and blues, folk and gospel, standards and originals such as, ‘Georgia On My Mind’, ‘You’ve Got A Friend’ and ‘Glory, Glory Hallelujah’. She added that the album was influenced by Alfies most recent UK concert dates, where the repertoire drew on the full range of Boe’s musical interests, from pop to rock to classical to musical theatre. Over the sold-out run of the Storyteller tour, which included two nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Boe played to almost 80,000 fans. Alfies spokesman added: Given UK album sales of well over one million and three Top Ten album, the tour was a triumphant cap to his career – so far. That’s not all - Alfie continues to impress, stealing the show at last summer’s Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace and then releasing his best-selling autobiography ‘My Story’. Not content with just music, Boe is stretching out in other ways too. He’s previously starred on Broadway in film director Baz Luhrmann’s acclaimed staging of La Bohème. But this autumn he makes his acting debut. In the upcoming second series of ITV’s hit period drama Mr Selfridge, Boe appears as a tenor named Richard Chapman. In the 1914-set show, he plays a crucial role in one of the storylines in the series about the founder of the eponymous London department store. She added that his new tour would see Alfie Boe draw upon his new album and previous repertoire. Tickets are on sale on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 10am and are available from gigsandtours (0844 811 0051) and ticketmaster.co.uk (0844 826 2826).
