News coming in about the ISIS-led ethnic cleansing of Mosul and in the parts of Iraq they control. The situation has gone way out of hand and the international community is silent. The West/NATO forces have seemingly taken to non-interference in the matter and understandably so. After all its their spawn, from their dalliance with the Gulf emirs. It was after Mosul came under the group that the international mainstream news media began reporting, some even on a daily basis, on the activities of this terrorist organisation. It was after Mosul that Al Baghdadis speeches started making headlines. AND it was after Mosul that the Iraq Crisis is reported to have begun (this one incidentally being the position taken up by both Brussels and Washington DC). The questions to be asked is firstly, why is the mainstream media reluctant to investigate the history of ISIS? Apart from the usual narrative of it branching out from Al-Qaeda and capitalising on the Sunni-Shia animosity in Iraq, have there been any attempt at discerning the facts from official statements? For instance, how many know for a fact that ISIS broke away from Al Qaeda a year ago, because of the perceived moderation of the latter? How many of us know that the big break for ISIS was fighting against the Baathist regime in Syria, where it was heavily pumped up with aid, arms and training from the usual suspects (Qatar, Saudi and Jordan) and from some not-so-unlikely allies in the West and Southern Levant, in their haste of bringing down Assad? Commentators and op-eds have been treating the organisation as some kind of fledgling, that took flight in the purported power vaccum left behind by US in Iraq. But how many of us know for a fact that this organisation have existed for over a decade, and have also been one of the allies in the NATO-invasion that brought down the Hussein regime? Finally, how come no one is taking about the UN resolution for transborder funding and aiding of Bhagdadis thugs in the name of aid for the Syrian opposition (whom some of you might call revolutionaries), thats been battered down to political and strategic margins by the same ISIS? But the mainstream narrative is clear: US backed out of Iraq and havoc broke loose. Nothing more nothing less. So while Im at it, allow me to predict whats gonna happen next. Washington DC and Brussels will wait and watch, for either the Baath regime and the Maliki government to fall or for the tide of this war to start going against the IS. If the former happens, the NATO and the UN will swoop in and start acting like god-sent Messiahs for the Arabian people. If the latter happens a direct confrontation with Assad and Maliki by the NATO forces would be imminent. Either way their actions will be for every shed of resistance in the Arab world to die a slow and painful death. This will effectively isolate Iran, Hezbollah and the Palestinians, making them sitting ducks for Western aggression.
