News from Phil Day 249. My thanks again to those who are concerned and inquire about my condition. There is not really much to report. Dr. Salgado (infectious disease) wants me to continue the oral antibiotic that I am on until October. It seems like a long time, but because of the nature of the infection we must be sure that it has been completely eradicated. This means slow and steady wins the race. Its not something quickly done. The leukemia battle cannot be resumed until fight with the bacterial infection has been won. Dr. Stephens (oncology) is encouraged by my current physical condition. The results of the latest blood tests show that things have not changed significantly and he sees this as a good thing. Having had only one round of chemotherapy, it seems highly unlikely that I am doing as well as I am. He has lifted most of the restrictions that have kept me pretty much homebound for the past eight months. Now we try to get back to something that resembles normal. I am still a leukemia patient. I am not in remission. There are still six to seven percent of my white blood cells that are blast cells, that are abnormal or leukemic in nature. However, Dr. Stephens assures me that I can live like this. So I continue to try to gain strength as we look forward to October. Once I have finished the antibiotic treatment, well see where we go from there. As always, it will be one day at a time.
