News from The Blue Water Nursery School - The Gambia The School continues to grow and now has 120 pupils, interestingly 70% of the pupils are female which represents a huge culture change for such a rural area. There are more girls than boys in the village, however many more parents are choosing to send girls to school rather than keep them at home to prepare for marriage and family life. This is very positive and exciting for us to see this change from when the School was opened in 2009. We now have two new teachers; Deja is teaching class 1, she is new to teaching and is steadily growing in confidence. Lamin is teaching class 2,he has 12 year experience and is a valuable asset to the School; both Deja and Lamin have started the Early Child Development training; and both are a great support to Aluei (class 3) and Mr Sowe (head master). We are very pleased that after four years hard work the School finally has official recognition – our thanks as always to Hilary and Steve from The Gambia School Trust who look after the School so well
