News release October 3, 2014 Purisima scandal further exposes PNoy as ardent defender of the corrupt – Anakpawis The Anakpawis party-list group today said that the corruption scandal involving Philippine National Police Chief Director General Alan Purisima further exposes the BS Aquino administration’s long-standing problem with transparency. The group said that Purisima continues to show confidence in the face of strong public criticism and condemnation because he enjoys the backing of the chief executive. Anakpawis Rep. Fernando Hicap said that Malacanang is deliberately ignoring the charges of corruption and plunder against Purisima for as yet unknown reasons, “But there is certainty that this is because Aquino wants to remain in good terms with the PNP’s top brass. There is nothing new or surprising about Pres. Aquino’s defense of his officials accused of involvement in massive corruption scams against the Filipino people. He continues to stand by DBM secretary Butch Abad and secretary Dinky Soliman despite strong evidence that they abused their authority for financial gain. Aquino, it appears, is hell-bent on being a defender of the corrupt,” he said. “Litaw na litaw ang palakasan system: pag malapit kay Pres. Aquino, kahit bistado na, lusot pa din. Kaya walang nakakasuhan o napapanagot na mataas ng opisyal ng gobyerno dahil mismong ang presidente ang promotor ng proteksyon” Hicap added Hicap said that it was then not surprising that many Filipinos are highly discontent and appalled against the Aquino administration as seen in the president’s plunging public trust ratings. “Instead of addressing these cases of massive corruption, Aquino stubbornly turns a blind eye and having a deaf ear against the growing clamor for the resignation of the corrupt officials involved. It’s no wonder Filipinos are also asserting how Aquino himself is very likely involved in these acts of corruption – a clean president, a leader who takes a sincere stance against corruption in government would not tolerate it among his officials. “ “Walang mangyayari sa imbetigasyon ni Purisima dahil hindi interesado si Pres. Aquino dito.” Meanwhile, Rep. Hicap also blasted Sen. Antonio Trillanes -- a known Aquino ally -- for the soft approach the former employed when questioning Purisima during yesterday’s senate hearing. “The senator is obviously not ashamed to show and prove his bias for the PNP chief. He all but defended Purisima, and this shows his hypocrisy because he takes a hard line stance when it comes to Vice-president Jejomar Binay’s case which also involves corruption. Trillanes is not so much against corruption as he is pro-Aquino. And by saying this, it can also be said that he is pro-corruption. There’s no difference between the charges against Binay and Purisima, but Trillanes only focuses on Binay. Talagang lumalabas tuloy ang pagiging hipokrito niya” “We condemn Aquino not only for protecting Purisima, but also for shielding all high ranking government officials involved in different degrees of corruption. Aquino should know that Filipinos will not take all this sitting down and will instead persist with efforts to demand accountability and punish all these corrupt officials,” Hicap concluded# For reference: Anakpawis party-list representative Fernando Hicap 09202271620
